DILLON UPDATE: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9.

It has been one year since Dillon was re-admitted to Mott Children's hospital with the terrible news of relapse. What a tough year it has been. Such a shock, and so quickly followed by so many days of.... well, torture for Dillon, and in a different way for all of us.

And yet there have been so many blessings - the comfort so many of you have provided, especially through your faithful prayers and... surgeries that were successful, gaining remission, a donor found, and a successful transplant again. Initial complications were managed well and really we know that Dillon has had an amazing recovery.

Now a second phase of recovery and challenge has begun. Dillon is experiencing a common problem, chronic GVHD (Graft-vs-Host Disease). His new immune system after all these months, has started to attack his liver. Chronic GVHD can occur several months to a couple of years post transplant. It can manifest in any of the organs, in the skin, the tear ducts, almost anywhere. Dillon's liver numbers have gotten worse lately. It has resulted in jaundice which is causing him alot of discomfort, including itchiness and insomnia. Dillon has still made it to school most days but is finding it more difficult to concentrate and to study at home.

Dillon has started on a new medicine that will hopefully reverse this trend and cause the chronic GVHD to subside. But it comes with some risk, as it will suppress his immune system. This is not the best thing for fighting off infections and viruses, but it is necessary. Dillon really needs this to work and without allowing any infections to set in.

We again ask you to pray for Dillon. He still never complains, but he does sometimes seem discouraged.

Praise God for his faithfulness, for going before us, and for all the good things ahead for Dillon.

With all our love ............ Thank you and God bless you!!

KNAUFF:  I thank the many of you that have provided me with insight, guidance, support, and especially prayer for the family. God has revealed himself to me in many ways this last week. Please continue to pray specifically to cast demons out of my home, out of my family members, and even my car. Pray that blessings of the Lord God our Savior shine on my children in this time of disruption. Pray that they are guarded against any harm. God is bringing my family through a very tough time that requires intervention and healing. He will see us through.

DILLON UPDATE:

A GOOD REPORT :)

We just got back from U of M. All in all, it was a good visit. Friday night his doctor started him on a medication called actigall. This morning's blood work showed that Dillon's liver was doing better.

Dillon also had an extensive ultra-sound of his liver and gall bladder. We do not have an official report, but it doesn't look like there are any blockages. He had a lot of blood work drawn for various viral and bacterial studies. It will take a few days to get results back. The doctors are thinking that the problem is likely chronic Graft-vs-Host-Disease (GVHD). If the GVHD is only in his liver and if the actigall is helping enough, he will not get a liver biopsy nor go on immunosuppressants.

So, we are waiting for a final diagnosis, but for now Dillon feels fine and his blood work is improving. Thank you so much for your prayers. Keep 'em comin. :) God is so happy to hear our prayers and petitions. You are faithful friends!
